"Heroes
come in all shapes and forms . . . . Do not let one's looks
deceive you."Queen Galina
Elijah Schkeiban is
a bit of a bearded gnomea raconteur sipping his morning
elixir at the corner Starbucks, regaling commoners
and celebrities with his fables from afar. His cohorts and
consorts air kiss, and keep each other appraised of any and
all folly and fortune. Elijah's latest adventure is his self-published
children's book Bats and Butterflies.
The hero is twelve-year-old
Joshua, an orphan and object of the jr. high school bully's
terrorist tactics. He is also the "last hope" for
a civilization in dire straits. In a fleeting moment of wizardry,
Joshua is whisked away to Altair, a strange planet populated
by warring factions of wicked bats and wondrous butterflies.
As prophesied, he will begin a journey to aid the butterflies,
on the way to fulfilling his destiny.
Bats and Butterflies
is filled with creatures, crystals, castles, and glory. An
old-fashioned fairy tale with a modern twisttrading
cards of the characters and multimedia possibilities: movies,
video games, et cetera. The story holds all the charm of its
authorlike Elijah, Bats and Butterflies is infinitely
optimistic in the face of good versus evil.
Digital technology,
the Internet, and the DIY ethic all make self-publishing a
viable option in trumpeting your tale. The bane of self-publishing,
however, is a lack of stringent editorial standards, unfortunately
of which Bats and Butterflies falls prey. Still, the
beauty of electronic publishing is that errors can be rectified
in an expeditious manner. A new quest for author Elijah Schkeiban
to embark upon as he shares his imaginings with this world,
and beyond.
Bats and Butterflies
