"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." — A. Bartlett Giamatti, "The Green Fields of the Mind," Yale Alumni Magazine, November 1977

Filmmaker Jeffrey Nagel's The Bases are Loaded, celebrates Cuban pitcher Connie Marrero, a Washington Senator from 1950 to 1954, and Baseball Hall of Famer Monte Irvin's reunion in Cuba more than 50 years later. This dynamic documentary — set against the political backdrop of American-Cuban relations — may seem like a niche film, but not really when spring announces it is time to play ball and Urban Outfitters' window set decor is Cuban themed. — KE Monahan Huntley
