American Splendor This is the role for which Paul Edward Valentine Giamatti should have won an Oscar. The lonely intonation he gives the line: "Man she's got good-looking handwriting" — simply heartbreaks.

Arrested Development Banjo plinks and high jinks. Ron Howard narrates the absurd antics of the Bluth family, friends, and foes. The lack of a laugh track serves to underscore its brilliant lunacy. Dialogue sample: “These are lawyers. That’s Latin for liar.” And that’s entertainment.

Editor's Note: Shout-out to MacGuinness' classmate and aspiring thespian Jonathan Vititoe and his Uncle James — one of the illuminators of the aforementioned entertainment.

Being Julia Revenge is a dish best served by a “double-dyed” Diva.

Garden State Zach Braff’s melancholy baby is a far cry from his screwball Scrubs. Both dispense a decent dose of gallows humor.

Die Mommie Die! What fun! Camp Beverly Hills.

Interiors Woody Allen's pity party — characters as fragile as the exquisite vases they collect. Pretension or perfection?

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach’s excellent aquarium adventure, fueled by reefer madness.

Million Dollar Baby Hilary Swank has come a long way from 90210’s Peach Pit to Baby’s Hit Pit. Still, Boys Don’t Cry is her knockout role.

Napoleon Dynamite In his thrift store geek chic, Napoleon exacts revenge of the nerds. Sweet.

The O.C. ”California here we come, right back where we started from. California . . ." Peek behind the Orange Curtain and take in the view.
