Between the Lines is an exploration
and articulation of the obvious and the obscure. A cavalcade of
creation and commentary designed to amuse and bemuse.

9/11 Michael Moore views our alien nation through rockets'
red glare and tears for fear. When our misguided youth kill
to a rock 'n' roll soundtrack it's time to recall Willie Nelson's
advice "Mama don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys."

Grandmaster
Flash and Melle Mel What do Brit wit Shaun of the Dead
and the Dorothy Parkeresque Gilmore Girls have in common?
"White Lines (Don't Do It)." In GG, a black
and white indie film within a particularly funny TV episode
showcases town quirk Kirk doing a mean robot to the anti-drug
anthem; in the rom zom com, Shaun and Ed belt it out as they
carouse through a night of the living dead. Just say yes to
both. KMH
"Philosophy is the talk on a cereal box." And the
cerebral comic matter of David O. Russell's fun film. Perhaps
he and Edie Brickell would be open to an existential debate?

Road trip ruminations lead to hope in a bottle. KMH
Sky Captain
and the World of Tomorrow A combo of The Wizard of Oz,
The Maltese Falcon, Star Wars, and definitely
Lost Horizon (the 30s version); not to mention the adventures
of Batman, Spiderman, Superman, Flash
Gordon, and Indiana Jones. Jude and Gwen, reunited
after Ripley, again are stylish, polished, sophisticated,
with quick-witted, snappy dialogue similar to repartee in The
Thin Man series (William Powell and Myrna Loy). Gwen's clothes
exactly like Bow Bow's from 30's even hat was the same!
thanks to Stella McCartney. KRM
Editor's Note: Bow Bow is KRM's mother and John Robert Powers
model in 1930s New York.

Charles' canny business sense and seminal singing style is truly
channeled by Jamie "sly as a" Foxx. KMH
Team America:
World Police Trey Stone and Matt Parker's puppet movie pokes
fun at real world terrorists: bullies who manufacture war and
bombastic blockbusters. Memorable lyric: "I miss you more
than that movie missed the point and that's a lot, girl."

advice: "Kids don't like eating lunch at school. But if
they've got a Remains of the Day lunch box, they're a
whole lot happier." KMH
