A Beautiful Mind Mathematicians without delusions can be deadly dull. Ron Howard's direction of John Nash's schizoid stalkers keeps this "based on a true story" from the usual "derivative drivel," however, you may find yourself watching the clock—just as you did back in algebra class.—KMH

Ghost World If MTV's alterna girl, Daria, was a live action film—this would be it. The always excellent Thora Birch delivers it deadpan, dressed in thrift-chic.—KMH

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Chris Columbus should be struck down by a bolt of lightning.—Leigh A. Godfrey

Hedwig and the Angry Inch John Cameron Mitchell's "slip of a girlie boy" invites you into Hedwig's marvelous mythos. Lou Reed and Toni Tennille are on the guest list.—KMH

Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius Tricked-out brave little toasters and Pee-wee's Playhouse gadgetry! Jimmy Neutron and his band of misfits punk rock it through Retroville's shiny solar system. Clever bits, but it's no "Pi in the Sky."—KMH

The Osbourne's As if Ozzy didn't endear himself enough to us in Penelope Spheeris' We Sold Our Souls for Rock 'n' Roll! The Ozman and his mad clan are the latest Loud family to give a weekly glimpse of the real world—MTV style via 90210. Tune in.—KMH

The Others Surrender to the otherworldliness of this elegant ghost story. Nicole Kidman is one of 2001's triumvirate of mamas gone mad—(Tilda Swinton in The Deep End, Sissy Spacek In the Bedroom)—now that's a truly frightening trend.—KMH

Vanilla Sky First off, Cameron Diaz has a scary face. She freaks me out. She reminds me of the Joker in Batman. What's up with that smile? Kurt Russell is a great actor. Jason Lee is one of my all time favorite actors. Tom Cruise is weird and short and should go through life with that plastic mask on his face. (The mask reminds me of that movie he was in with his wife—Eyes Wide Shut.) Penelope is a babe. I really liked the movie. It's weird, not The Ice Storm disturbing, but good weird. Cameron Crowe continues to rock.—John J. Cappa
